Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Will It Bend? Yes It Does.

Last year when Apple rolled out their new iPhones, there was a lot of controversy as there were several reports of the phone bending in the pockets of its users, leading to the Bendgate scandal which spawned a ton of parodies and memes. Well it looks like this focus could be on Samsung this year as the folks at SquareTrade have decided to see if the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is just as bendy as the iPhone 6 Plus.

The testing involved three handsets – the iPhone 6 Plus, the HTC One M9, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Now these handsets weren’t bent by hand and instead a device referred to as as BendBot was used to apply pressure on the phone until it broke. The pressure applied is meant to simulate the force occurred when a person sits down with their phone in their pocket, albeit a bit more precise and consistent in its application.

The results? It turns out that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge bends at around 110 pounds, which interestingly enough is the same amount of force required to bend the iPhone 6 Plus. As for the HTC One M9, it turns out it is slightly tougher as it took 120 pounds before it bent. However in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, once the phone bent, its screen cracked along the edge, although it remained fully functional otherwise.

To put this simply, there hasn’t really been any complaints of the iPhones bending as of late. In fact Apple claimed that there were only a handful of complaints to begin with, so if you had your eye on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can rest assured that it should be able to hold up for the most part.
