According to a recent sighting on Geekbench (via SamMobile), a certain Samsung tablet going by the codename “CHOPIN’ has been spotted running an Intel processor. For the most part Samsung’s tablets have typically been powered by ARM-based processors, so this comes as a pleasant surprise. The processor in question is the Intel Atom X5-Z8500 which is manufactured based on the company’s 14nm Cherry Trail platform.
It will feature four cores that have been clocked at 2.24GHz and will sport Intel’s 8th-gen graphics. The benchmark also revealed that it will come with a whopping 4GB of RAM, Android 5.1 Lollipop, and based on the codename “CHOPIN-LTE”, it seems that we can look forward to LTE connectivity on the device as well.
Unfortunately details such as its screen size, its screen resolution, storage space, cameras, and other features were not detailed, but based on the 4GB of RAM it’s safe to say that this could be a high-end offering. Alternatively it could also be a prototype that might never see the light of day, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled all the same.
