LG Is Bringing Flip Phones Back With Lollipop-Powered ‘Wine Smart’

LG today revealed its plan to launch an Android-based flip phone or clamshell in plenty of markets across the world. The phone is named as Wine Smart, the device was earlier known as LG Gentle, which was initially launched in Korea. The company will be unveiling the device sometime later this month, starting with select markets such as France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan, Japan and the United Kingdom.

We all remember flip phones, and many of us still miss that design of smartphones. For the sake of all those nostalgic users, LG has come out with Wine Smart. In its press release, LG admits that Wine Smart has been crafted for a “generation of users who are more accustomed to the feel of flip phones.”

The Wine Smart runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with a 3.2-inch display with 480 x 320 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. There is 4GB of internal storage on-board, a 3-megapixel rear camera, and a VGA front camera. In terms of connectivity, it supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, and is backed by a 1,700mAh battery. LG has not revealed the pricing of the device yet, but the device retails at $170 in Korea, so we can expect it to be priced under $200 for other markets as well. As of now, LG has not disclosed whether it will be bringing the Wine Smart to the US or not.
