BlackBerry Priv Android Slider Has Been Officially Confirmed

blackberry-venice-androidFor the longest time ever we have kept hearing about BlackBerry’s plans for Android handset. According to the leaks and rumors, the device we kept hearing about was the BlackBerry Venice which according to a rumor from a couple of days ago, has been given its official name as the BlackBerry Priv.

For those who are still skeptical and think that this is a hoax, it is not as BlackBerry themselves have since confirmed plans to launch the device. This is according to the BlackBerry 2016 Q2 earnings in which the company explicitly made reference to the BlackBerry Priv as well as confirm that it will run on Android.

According to BlackBerry’s press release, “First, the company will launch a flagship slider device, Priv, which will run on the Android operating system, bringing together the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform.”

As for availability, the company expects it will be released by the end of the year and are expected to make an announcement regarding availability in the coming weeks. “BlackBerry expects the device to be available late in the calendar year in major markets in-store and online, and will release further details in the coming weeks.”

In the meantime for fans of the BlackBerry OS, fret not as the Canadian company has stated that they will be remaining committed to the platform, so don’t expect the BlackBerry Priv and Android to replace BlackBerry OS anytime soon.
