Looks like Google is going to follow Amazon into the business of delivering your groceries. The company is reportedly gearing up to offer grocery delivery through its same-day and next-day delivery service Google Express at least in two cities later this year. It will start with San Francisco and partner with Costco and Whole Food for this purpose, pickups will be made directly from their stores and delivered to customers at a time of their choosing.

This is going to be the first time that Google Express will allow users to order groceries, previously the company has only offered boxed foods. Google’s foray in the fresh grocery market is going to compete against AmazonFresh which is already available in parts of Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and New York. The company has some catching up to do.

Google also confirmed today that Google Express is being launched across six different states and the Greater Chicagoland area. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin are on that list. Overnight delivery will be available.

Google allows customers to pay a delivery fee for every order or go with a monthly or yearly subscription which offers free shipping on most orders. Supported stores in these states include Barnes & Noble, Costco, Fry’s Electronics, Kohl’s, L’Occitane en Provence, Staples, Toys “R” Us & Babies “R” Us, Walgreens and many more.
