Nexus 7 (2013) Rumored To Get Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

nexus-7-2-review--015The Nexus 7 (2013) model is 2 years old. This means that by today’s standards it is considered to be very outdated, especially in the face of QHD displays and octa-core processors. So what does that mean for the future of the device? Is Google planning on not issuing more updates to the tablet?

Thankfully that does not appear to be the case, at least according to Android Police’s Artem Russakovskii. In a post on Google+, Russakovskii has confirmed that the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, despite being 2 years old, will be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update when it has been released, which last we heard was pegged for the 5th of October.

Russakovskii goes on to note that Google’s older Nexus devices like the original Nexus 7, Nexus 4, and probably the Nexus 10 will not be getting the update. “N7 2012 and N4 (and most likely N10) still will not, as we’ve previously reported several times. You shouldn’t have expected it anyway, given how old they are. It’s not always about whether they could physically run it but how much effort it would be for the engineering team.”

So if you do own the Nexus 7 (2013) model, hopefully more details about the upcoming update will be revealed/confirmed at Google’s event on the 29th of September.
