Verizon’s Moto X (2013) Could Be Updated To Android Lollipop

moto-x-review-06The original Moto X was released back in 2013 which means as far as OEMs are concerned, it is “old”. This also means that it is possible that updates to future major builds of Android might no longer be possible. The good news is that if you’re still holding onto the original Moto X from 2013, you’re in luck.

According to reports, it seems that a soak test for Verizon’s Moto X (2013) is underway and the test is for an upgrade to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Yup, you read that right, Motorola’s original Moto X could see an upgrade to Android Lollipop! We say “could” because this is a soak test which means that Verizon/Motorola are testing the update out.

It is possible that if the update does not perform as planned or do as well as it should that they could ultimately cancel their plans. Unfortunately there is also no telling as to when the update will be released if successful, but either way we can only imagine that this is pretty good news for Moto X users who could see a new lease on life for their device.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for the update, but in the meantime are there still many original Moto X users left? Or have you guys dumped the device in favor of newer and updated models?
