The new Apple TV is expected to go on sale in Apple’s retail stores this Friday. The latest Apple TV is a big deal for Apple because not only is it a hardware refresh that’s long overdue, but because of new features such as its new remote control that represents a potential for the Apple TV to be more than just a set-top box.

So what else is in the Apple TV’s future? In an interview with CNNMoney (via AppleInsider), Apple exec Eddy Cue was asked about the rumors that Apple could get into original programming, a rumor that we heard about a couple of months ago. However Cue did not deny those rumors but rather deftly side-stepped the question.

According to Cue, “We love working with our partners. We’re great at technology, and they’re great at creating content, and we think that’s a great partnership to have.” This isn’t exactly a denial or a confirmation, but it is possible that Cue just did not want to fuel any rumors or begin any speculation, so for now it looks like the rumors of Apple creating original content is still pretty much a mystery.

In the same interview, Cue downplayed how the Apple TV could be a cord-cutting solution. He notes that the device will be more of an “add-on” for most users, simply because the apps that are on the Apple TV such as ABC, CNN, and WatchESPN will still require users to have a subscription to cable or satellite.
