There’s absolutely no shortage of apps that allow you to quickly take notes on Android, no shortage at all, many won’t even feel the need to look for alternatives to Google Keep. It’s preloaded on most Android devices because it’s a Google app, and frankly it’s quite good at what it does, but Microsoft has made a new one for Android users. The app is called Parchi and it’s described as a “lightweight” note-taking app for Android.

Parchi is a Microsoft Garage project, it’s team at the company that works on experimental applications, the team wanted to recreate the experience of using paper and pencil to quickly capture notes. It’s certainly not meant to take OneNote’s place, Microsoft’s much more powerful note-taking app, Parchi is for capturing small bites of information quickly without having to define a structure at the time of taking the note.

Since speed is paramount  here users will be able to take notes directly from the lockscreen, they can add pictures and lists to the text as well if they want. Notes can be easily shared over email, SMS, WhatsApp or other social apps. Parchi also uses hashtags to tag all notes making it much easier find the one the user is searching for particularly if they tend to take a lot of notes. Notes can be backed up so even if the app is uninstalled or the user changes phones they will always remain safe.

Parchi is now available as a free download from the Google Play Store. Fun fact: Parchi is an Urdu word which essentially means an edge of paper on which something has been quickly jotted down. 10/10 for the name, Microsoft!
