Samsung’s Bendable Batteries Could Lead To Interesting Wearables

samsung-stripe-band-batteriesAs it stands, the batteries found in consumer electronics are pretty solid and inflexible. While there has been some work done in creating liquid batteries, for the most part you won’t find them in your smartphone or smartwatch anytime soon. However Samsung might have something close as far as flexible batteries are concerned.

The company has recently taken the wraps off two battery prototypes called the Stripe and the Band. As you can see in the image above, the Stripe is the more flexible of the two, and it is also much thinner with a depth of 0.3mm. The Band on the other hand is thicker but it has been designed to attach to smartwatches, and supposedly gives it a 50% boost in battery life.

However with these flexible designs, it could lead to interesting designs as far as wearables are concerned in the future. Due to the flexible nature, we could be looking at wearables such as necklaces, headbands, or smart clothing. This is because the battery is flexible and thus can be contoured to the wearer’s body.

That being said, we should remind you guys that both the Stripe and the Band batteries are currently prototypes. As to when we might see them being mass produced and make their way into future products remains to be seen.
