Valve has been toying with the concept of the Steam Machine for a very long time now, and even though plans were unveiled quite a long time back, gamers have had to wait for a long time to get their hands on one. Today the first batch of Valve’s Steam Machines has been released and they’re accompanied by the Steam Controller and Steam Link home streaming box.

To create these machines Valve has teamed up with several different manufacturers, for now it’s promoting Steam Machines from Alienware, Zotac and Cyberpower which cost between $499 to $1,499 per unit. The Steam Controller and Steam Link be purchased for $50 a pop.

It hasn’t been a particularly easy road to this day, the entire Steam Machine project saw multiple delays along the way, with pre-orders finally being accepted over the summer. Steam Machines are powered by Steam OS which is a Linux based operating system that manufacturers can easily adopt regardless of whether they’re making a high-end Steam Machine or one that’s more for the budget conscious.

A small number of people who placed their pre-orders over the summer received their units in October ahead of the official release in November. Starting today though anyone can immediately purchase a Steam Machine, Steam Controller and Steam Link. Let the games begin.
