Gmail Will Now Search Spam Folder For Your Missing Emails

I have had this happen to me countless times and I’m sure you’ve experienced this as well, Gmail often sends legitimate emails into the Spam folder and I’m left wondering why that email isn’t showing up in my inbox. Spam is now the first place I check when I can’t find an email. Google is aware of this struggle that millions of its users face on a daily basis and it’s finally doing something about it.

It only required a small change in the way Gmail’s search feature works to make it much easier for us to find emails that may have landed in the Spam folder. You could try searching for an email previously but since only the Inbox and associated folders were indexed alongside Trash, results didn’t turn up emails in the Spam folder.

Gmail address this issue by indexing both Trash and Spam folders, meaning that if you search for an email it will look in that particular folder as well. If it finds a match it will notify you through a footer at the bottom of search results to indicate that some messages have been found in Span that match your search.

Google has announced this change and it will be gradually rolled out to all Gmail users across the globe over the next two years.
