Rdio Paid Subscriptions Will Be Cancelled November 23

rdioAs you might have heard, last week we reported that Pandora would be acquiring Rdio’s assets for $75 million. Note that this isn’t an acquisition of Rdio itself,  but rather its assets. Ultimately this also means that the company will be shuttering its services but unfortunately we still do not know when that is.

However to help users transition, Rdio has posted some information about how they will be handling it, and will basically be cancelling paid subscriptions and they will also stop accepting new subscriptions come November 23rd. “Effective Monday, November 23, if you currently have an Rdio subscription, it will be canceled on your next billing date, and you will no longer be automatically charged.”

Rdio also adds, “Rest assured that your subscription will remain active for any period of time you’ve already been billed. Also starting November 23, Rdio will no longer take new subscriptions.” This means that once your subscription has been cancelled, you will have to use the company’s free ad-supported version, at least until the company’s services are taken offline.

Like we said it was not mentioned as to when Pandora’s purchase of Rdio’s assets will be complete, so it is unclear as to when Rdio will be officially shuttered, but either way if you are a Rdio subscriber, perhaps it’s time to start looking at alternatives.
