20% Of US Consumers Prefer 4-inch Smartphones

iphone-5s-review-014There is talk about Apple possibly launching a 4-inch iPhone 6c in 2016. However many of us remain skeptical because let’s face it, phones these days are definitely treading phablet waters so the idea of a 4-inch smartphone seems a little silly. After all why would anyone want a smaller phone when a larger display like 4.7-inches or 5-inches would be more comfortable, right?

However as it turns out, there is still quite a few customers who actually do appreciate the smaller form factor. According to a recent survey conducted by Piper Jaffray, they polled 1,077 consumers in the US to find out their preferred screen size and according to their findings, it seems that 20.3% of the survey’s participants actually said that they do prefer a 4-inch screen.

According to analyst Gene Munster, “We believe that part of the reason that over 20% of smartphone users still say they prefer a 4″ screen size is they still have older model iPhones. When they upgrade to a 4.7″ screen with an only slightly bigger footprint in the pocket, we expect those users would be converts to the larger screen size.”

The survey went on to find that 31.2% actually preferred a screen size of 4.7-inches, 27.2% said they preferred a 5.5-inch display,. while the remaining 21.2% said that they would prefer a screen outside of 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches, suggesting that we could be either looking at screens smaller or larger than those sizes.
