Director Uses iPhone 6s Plus To Shoot An Entire Music Video

High-end smartphones cameras have become so advanced that many low-budget productions are now being filmed using handsets instead of traditional video cameras. There have already been a few examples of music videos being filmed with a smartphone and director Sven Dreesbach has done precisely the same thing: using an iPhone 6s Plus to shoot an entire music video.

The video for Robot Koch’s Dark Waves feat. Delhia de France has been shot entirely on an iPhone 6s Plus by Dreesbach, the underwater composition follows a similar trend to the video for Kanye West’s Only One which features the great Paul McCartney and was shot with an iPhone 6.

Since the iPhone 6s Plus isn’t waterproof Dreesbach had to use the housing case by Watershort to get the underwater shots, on land he used the handset with Beastgrip’s system for better handheld shots by hooking up the device with a stabilization rig. Dreesbach used lenses which came with Watershort and Beastgrip, fisheye and wide angle, and edited the footage using Filmic Pro app.

The video is about four minutes long and contains plenty of slow motion shots made possible by the ability of the latest iPhone to record slow motion video in HD. He did have his work cut out for him, particularly the editing process, which the director described as “painful” at times.

However the result speaks for itself, and goes to show that the 800-strong team that’s working on the iPhone’s camera is certainly doing to fine job.
