This particular centre would require 6 acres (2.43 hectares) of land, where there is also the possibility of expanding to 20 acres down the road should the need arise, at least according to Magistrate Wei Ming-ku of Changhua County in central Taiwan. Wei shared, “We’ve made all-out efforts to ensure sufficient supply of water and electricity … We hope they will come.”
So far, Google has a data centre located in Changhua County, and perhaps there is a hope that fast-growing Asian markets will be able to be tapped. Facebook, however, has this to say, “As a global company working to connect billions of people around the world, we are always evaluating potential sites for new data centres, but we don’t have anything to announce at this time.” So, is it on or not? Only time will be able to tell.
