Sony Unveils Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector

A couple of years ago at CES 2014, Sony unveiled an ultra short throw projector for the home. It was able to output 4K resolution with a projected screen of 147-inches. If this setup seems a bit excessive and expensive, you might be pleased to learn that Sony has a cheaper solution for you in the form of the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector.

As the name implies, this is a smaller version of the projector Sony unveiled a couple of years ago. It is also more portable, although the downside is that its resolution and projected screen size isn’t as big as its big brother. However if a screen size of anywhere between 22-80 inches and a resolution of 1366×768 is good enough for you, then this might be worth checking out.

The device is powered by a battery and can last as long as 2 hours on a single charge. It measures 3.19-inches by 5.16-inches by 5.16-inches and has 100 lumens. There is also HDMI input if you’d prefer a wired connection, but otherwise you could stream wirelessly via Bluetooth connectivity.

It also looks pretty stylish and minimalist, perfect for a discreet living room setup. It is expected to make its way to the US by the summer, although it will be launching in Japan first come 13th February for ¥93,000, which is about $800 converted. We’re not sure if it will share the same price in the US, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
