Samsung’s Ultra HD 4K Blu-Ray Player Goes On Sale

At the IFA trade show last year Samsung announced the first Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player, the UBD-K8500, it was expected to hit shelves around March 2016. It appears that the company has put up the product for sale a bit earlier than expected. Multiple reports have come in about the Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player being in stock at several retailers.

Customers who pre-ordered the UBD-K8500 from Best Buy have been informed that their units are going to start shipping on February 10th. A Facebook post from a store in Santa Monica shows that it sold out of the Blu-ray player on the same day it advertised that they were in stock.

Samsung hasn’t really revealed why it has released the UBD-K8500 earlier than expected but I’m sure customers who have been waiting for it won’t mind getting their hands on it a bit earlier than expected.

There’s a steady stream of new Ultra HD 4K content now and many movie studios have confirmed that they will release and re-release films in Ultra HD 4K. The Martian and Kingsmen: The Secret Service were the launch titles and they’re currently listed as pre-order on Amazon.

The UBD-K8500 is also capable of streaming 4K content from online services like Netflix and can also play conventional Blu-ray discs, CDs, DVDs and 3D discs.
