Folks in the United States have had to wait for a long time to get their hands on Sony’s current flagship. It was reported last week that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will be released in the United States on February 7th. Sure enough, both handsets were officially released in the U.S. yesterday and they’re now available for purchase off-contract and unlocked from Amazon, Best Buy and other participating retailers.

Since no carrier has picked up these devices there’s no chance of getting a carrier subsidy on the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact. Customers who are looking to purchase the handsets will have to pay $599 for the Xperia Z5 and $499 for Xperia Z5 Compact.

Sony actually released the handsets in October last year but the release was limited to customers in Europe. The handsets were gradually rolled out in other countries across the globe. Customers in the United States have had to wait for a considerable amount of time just to get their hands on the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact.

One of the biggest features of the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact is the 23 megapixel rear camera with an Exmore RS mobile image sensor, the handsets didn’t figure in our Best Phone Camera comparison because they hadn’t been released at that time, but the camera on both Xperias really is outstanding.
