iOS Devices Get Dolby Digital Plus Support In iOS 9.3

ios 9 homescreeniOS 9.3 has a bunch of pretty cool features such as Night Shift, which for those unfamiliar will basically adjust your display’s color temperature to reduce the amount of blue light emitted, which in turn will help you sleep better at night, or so they say. However it seems that there are other features that Apple did not exactly brag about.

As noted in the iOS 9.3 patch notes, one of the changes iOS 9.3 will be making to iOS devices is the inclusion of Dolby Digital Plus support. According to the patch notes, “Adds support for playing video encoded with Dolby Digital Plus audio streams with support for multichannel output using the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter.”

So some of you guys might be wondering, what’s the big deal? If you’re just an average Joe who doesn’t really care that much about sound quality or things like multiple channel support, we guess this doesn’t really make a difference. However if you do care, then Dolby Digital Plus support basically means that you’ll be able to enjoy movies and TVs shows that come with Dolby Audio and experience it in 7.1-channel audio.

However as the patch notes points out, you will need an Apple Lightning to AV adapter in order to fully take advantage of this. In the meantime iOS 9.3 is currently available for download, so go ahead and check it out if you haven’t already.
