Speaking to Game Informer, Ybarra cites MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft where players are able to participate in massive raids where back in the day, as many as 40 players were fighting a raid boss at once (that number has since dropped to a maximum of 25 players). No doubt this sounds highly appealing as it would encourage more epic multiplayer games and strategies.
According to Ybarra, “I’d love to get that to 64 because that’ll get Battlefield and games like that which do 64 vs. 64…have at it! Now, I don’t want to be in a party of 64, but that’s a different problem!” Ybarra’s statement doesn’t really come as a surprise given that recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated that he would love to see Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV arrive for the platform.
This also follows Microsoft’s announcement in which they have decided to allow for cross-platform play, meaning that having an expanded multiplayer limit would certainly go a long way in helping players find games with non-Xbox gamers as well.
