Samsung Gear VR Gets WebVR Support

The Samsung Gear VR is an excellent entry point into the world of virtual reality. At $99 it’s one of the most affordable VR headsets in the market even though you need a Samsung flagship handset to use it. The Gear VR’s functionality has gradually been improved over time and now it will be able to provide a more immersive web experience to users as it has gained support for the web’s native VR standard.

Samsung already released a web browser for the Gear VR late last year so it’s possible to browse the web using the headset but now that it has support for WebVR, users will be able to browse the virtual reality experiences found on the web as well.

Users can now easily transition from a mobile experience to immersive VR, meaning that they can start browsing the web on a mobile browser and then insert the phone into the Gear VR to seamlessly transition to a virtual reality environment where they can experience 360-degree video and related content.

Samsung Internet for Gear VR 1.0, the web browser, is available for download from the Oculus Store. Keep in mind that WebVR support has to be enabled manually, just head over to the settings menu to flip the switch and start experiencing the web in VR.
