Man Rants About Pokemon GO Not Being Available, Gets Fired

pokemon-goPokemon GO’s popularity is no joke. The app is on track to have the same amount of daily active users as Twitter, and recently it also increased Nintendo’s shares by as much as 25%, adding around $9 billion to the company’s market share. However its availability is still somewhat limited as there are still some markets without the game.

Over in Singapore, a man by the name of Sonny Truyen ranted about how the game was not available in the country, in which he was quoted as saying on Facebook, “You can’t f**king catch Pokémon in this piece of f**king sh*t country.” He then proceeded to get into an argument with another Facebook user, who later with her friends reported his comments.

The company that he had just started working with was also hit with negative feedback, asking why would they hire someone like him, to which they have since issued an official apology and also stated that they have terminated his employment with them. “We are a proud Singaporean company and do not condone such language or behaviour, hence we have since terminated his engagement once the incident came to light.”

They add, “I apologise on behalf of 99.co, we pride ourselves to be a principled company that celebrates values like diversity and equality. We take responsibility for the public behaviour of any employee or consultant affiliated with us as a reflection of the company.” Yikes. In the meantime the international rollout of Pokemon GO has been paused as the company is working out its server issues.
