Bungie has now revealed why it decided to drop support for last-generation consoles for the upcoming Rise of Iron expansion. That’s because Rise of Iron is going to bring significant changes to the game. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny is getting private matches, support for clans as will as proper tournaments with prize money that are hosted by players themselves.

The Crucible is about to change in Destiny. With private matches, players are completely in control of their personal arena even if they’re not the ones playing. They can create everything from a competitive showdown to a controlled stage for stories. It’s up to players to decide whether the game they host is going to be competitive or casual.

All private matches will take place in a personal clubhouse which will bear the name of the Clan that controls it. Players don’t need to be in a Clan to host a match but it’s certainly easier to fill a lobby which you have an active roster of players.

Bungie now has the tools to support the competitive community that wants to host its own tournaments. There are several rules and regulations that tournament organizers have to adhere to which have been detailed on Bungie’s website.

Destiny – Rise of Iron expansion is going to be released on September 20th.
