2 Singaporeans Arrested Trying To Buy The iPhone 7 At The Airport

With pretty much the majority of retailers having sold out of iPhones, safe to say that if you wanted to get one, you’d have to be creative, which is what a pair of Singaporeans did. In case you did not know, some airports sell electronic gadgets including Apple products, which is where these enterprising Singaporeans headed to.

The pair thought they could buy plane tickets, go past immigration, buy the iPhones, and then leave. Unfortunately it is considered a crime to buy plane tickets if you have no intention of leaving the country, which is why after it was discovered that was their intent, the duo were arrested by police.

Right now they are being charged under the country’s Protected Areas and Protected Places Act, and could face a fine of up to 1,000 Singapore dollars and two years in jail if convicted. The Singaporean police has since posted a warning on their Facebook page warning other “creative” customers not to attempt to do the same.

“The transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places. The Police would like to remind all passengers who enter the transit hall with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of travelling to their next destinations. Those who misuse their boarding pass to enter the transit areas, with no intention to proceed to their next destination, are liable for an offence under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act.” Yikes!
