Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk has just tweeted to announce that the company is going to unveil a new product at an event next month. This is the first product to materialize following the merger of Tesla and SolarCity even though the transaction has not been formally closed yet. Musk has said that the new product is a solar roof which features an integrated Powerwell 2.0 battery coupled with a Tesla charger.

Tesla announced its $2.6 billion deal with SolarCity last month. The company said that this deal is going to enable the combined entity to become “the world’s only vertically integrated sustainable energy company.”

Its goal with this merger is to develop fully integrated residential, commercial as well as grid-scale products which will be used for generation, storage, and distribution of solar power. Elon Musk is in an interesting position in all this. He’s the chairman of SolarCity and also the largest individual shareholder in both SolarCity and Tesla while SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive is Musk’s cousin.

Musk hasn’t gone into too many details about this new product today because obviously that’s being kept from us until the event itself. What we do know is that Telsa is going to unveil a new solar roof that has an integrated battery and charger. Naturally, there’s going to be a lot of interest in this.

Tesla’s event is going to take place on October 28th in the San Francisco Bay Area.
