If you follow anime then there’s a big possibility that you know who Hayao Miyazaki is. He’s a legend in the Japanese anime industry and much to the dismay of his fans, he announced back in 2013 that he was retiring from the business. His fans will now be very excited to hear reports that Miyazaki has said that he’s coming out of retirement to make one final movie.

Japanese media reports reveal that Miyazaki made this announcement on a Japanese TV special broadcast over the weekend. The broadcast was very aptly titled Hayao Miyazaki: The Man Who Is Not Done.

He revealed in the broadcast that he’s not that happy with the 12 minute CG short film that he has been working on recently called Kemushi no Boro or Boro the Caterpillar. He wants to turn it into a proper full-length film instead. It’s unclear if the studio bosses have given a green light yet but the special does show Miyazaki starting work on the animation for this new movie.

The Kemushi no Boro short was actually being created for Tokyo’s Ghibli Museum which showcases artifacts from Studio Ghibli that was co-founded by Miyazaki. He’s believed to have been developing this story for over 20 years. He added in the special that he might be 80 years old by the time this movie is finished, he’s 75 currently, so if the studio does green light this project his fans will probably have to wait until 2020 to see his final movie.
