iPhone 7 On Verizon’s Network Not Performing As Well As It Could

iphone-7-design-sideLast year there was a bit of controversy regarding the iPhone 6s chipsets, in which it was discovered that the TSMC-made chipsets provided longer battery life (on paper) compared to the ones made by Samsung. Could a similar problem be brewing this year for Apple’s iPhone 7? It’s certainly starting to look that way.

According to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that researchers at Twin Prime Inc. and Cellular Insights have found that the iPhone 7 on Verizon’s networking isn’t performing as fast as it could, and it could be Apple’s own doing. The researchers have found that testing the phones on AT&T and Verizon’s network yielded similar results, but they also note that the iPhone on Verizon’s network could potentially hit higher internet speeds.

If you might recall, it has been discovered that depending on which carrier you use, your iPhone’s modem could either be made by Qualcomm or Intel. Qualcomm’s modem is supposed to be faster with download speeds of up to 600Mb/s, while Intel’s model tops out at 450Mb/s. This means in theory Verizon’s iPhone should be capable of achieving faster download speeds.

However some analysts speculate that maybe this was done on purpose to ensure a uniform experience across all iPhones, although right now we’re sure that some iPhone users probably aren’t too thrilled to learn that their iPhones could be artificially limited in some way.

According to Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller, “Every iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus meets or exceeds all of Apple’s wireless performance standards, quality metrics, and reliability testing. In all of our rigorous lab tests based on wireless industry standards, in thousands of hours of real-world field testing, and in extensive carrier partner testing, the data shows there is no discernible difference in the wireless performance of any of the models.”
