Maserati has previously confirmed that it’s looking to get into the electric car game as well but you can’t quite imagine the luxury car manufacturer to make an all-electric hatchback. You can be sure that it’s offering is going to be premium and it’s going to be expensive. Maserati has now confirmed that its first electric production car is going to be an all-electric version of its Alfieri sports car which it’s aiming to launch by 2020.

When it was first said that Maserati wants to develop electric cars, reports suggested that the company was looking to have one out in the market by the end of this decade. That’s really the timeline that the company itself is shooting for.

Maserati says that the all-electric version of the Alfieri is going to be released after the V6-touting Alfieri is launched around 2019. It needs that extra time to make this car because the chassis design that the Alfieri users needs energy economy improvements as well as further weight reductions. Maserati is currently working on all of that as its current product design plans are going to be refreshed after 2018.

No information about the expected range or price is available at this point in time. We may have to wait for a couple of years to find out how much the all-electric Maserati Alfieri is going to cost and how far it’s going to go on a single charge.
