Developer Calls OnePlus 3 Touch Latency The ‘Worst’

oneplus_3_002With capacitive touchscreens replacing resistive touchscreens, it marked the start of a new era of how we interacted with devices. It opened the door to gestures, new types of games, and how we interact with apps. However not all capacitive touchscreens were created equal, as one developer has since called out OnePlus on the OnePlus 3’s touchscreen latency.

According to developer arter97, he claims that the touch latency on the OnePlus 3 is the worst he’s ever seen. “OnePlus 3 has the worst latency I’ve ever had on an Android device. Smoothness is not equal to latency. OnePlus 3’s hardware is “smooth”. And by smooth, it means the GPU can consistently handle 60fps output. Latency is another thing, since latency is big, contents beneath the finger always follow your finger slowly(more noticeable when you scroll slowly).”

His claims seem to be backed by other users on the OnePlus forums who are claiming similar issues. It has been suggested that this is more of a software/optimization issue because about a week ago, OnePlus issued an update to the OnePlus 3T that updated the touch panel’s firmware, an update that the OnePlus 3 did not get.

We’re not sure if OnePlus has plans to update the OnePlus 3, especially since the phone has been discontinued in the US and Europe, but hopefully they will as it would not be nice to leave existing customers hanging. Now whether or not the touch latency can be felt during usage will probably vary from user to user. Those who are more keen might notice it, while those who aren’t might not even know about it until it’s been pointed out, but what do you guys think? Have you noticed any latency issues with the OnePlus 3’s touchscreen?
