Tesla’s Cheapest Model S Gets $2,000 Price Increase

The cars that you can buy from Tesla right now aren’t exactly cheap. The base models run comfortably north of $60,000 and if you were to go crazy with the options you will easily spend more than $100,000 on an electric car. If you’ve just been meaning to pick up the entry-level Model S to gain entry into the Tesla club, be warned, you’ll now have to pay an additional $2,000 to get a Model S in your driveway.

The Model S 60 is the cheapest Model S that money can buy. It’s the base model and you can only go up from here. It used to cost $66,000 but following a price hike it now costs $68,000.

This model features a 60 kWh battery which promises 215 miles of range on a single charge. You would be better off by spending an additional $6,500 to get the Model S 75 with a 75 kWh battery that has 259 miles of range.

Even at $68,000, the base model of the Model S costs much more than what the average customer will be looking to spend on a car. Tesla’s first mass-market electric car won’t arrive until next year. At under $30,000, the Tesla Model 3 will give average folk the chance to own a Tesla without having to leverage an arm, a leg, and everything in between.
