Huawei is one of the fastest-growing smartphone vendors and it’s a fact that the company does not want you to forget. Huawei has sent out a press release today announcing that the P9 and P9 Plus shipments have crossed 10 million units globally. This makes the P9 Huawei’s first flagship series to cross the 10 million mark. Huawei says that this is a major milestone for it from both a product and a brand perspective.

It points out that more than 10 million units of the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus were shipped despite the fact that the global smartphone market remained sluggish in 2016. It says that this proves Huawei’s investment in international markets is paying healthy dividends for the company.

Huawei first announced the P9 and P9 Plus back in April this year. They were the company’s first flagship smartphones developed in collaboration with German camera brand Leica. They include a Leica-branded dual-lens rear camera aside from flagship-level specifications.

The company mentions that more than 2.6 million units of the P9 were shipped globally just six weeks after the release. It took some eight months for this flagship series to top the 10 million mark.

Huawei shipped a total of 33.59 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2016 which is a 23 percent increase from the previous year. Mid-to-high-end devices accounted for about 44 percent of the total shipments in the previous quarter. The company expects its strong performance to continue in the coming quarters.
