New NVIDIA Shield Android TV Box Launch Rumored For CES 2017

If a new rumor is to be believed, NVIDIA is going to launch a new Shield Android TV box at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 next month. It has been a while since this product was released so it’s due for a refresh. Details are slim at this point in time but the company is now expected to unveil the new NVIDIA Shield Android TV box at CES 2017 in January. It’s possible since NVIDIA does host an annual event at the technology conference in Las Vegas.

It’s claimed that the new NVIDIA Shield Android TV box is going to have support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi and MIMO antennas so that it can offer the best performance with fast home Wi-Fi networks. 4K content integration and support is also expected to be on the agenda.

4K integration does make sense, particularly when you consider the fact that Google has now started selling 4K movies and video content through the Play Store. Only supported devices can properly stream Ultra HD content so there’s all the more reason in the world for NVIDIA to enable this in its upcoming Android TV set-top box.

Some changes might be made to the Shield Controller as well. It’s expected to ditch Wi-Fi Direct in favor of Bluetooth Low Energy. This change might be made to the Shield Remote as well.

No word as yet on how much the new NVIDIA Shield Android TV box is going to cost and when it will actually be released.
