Polaroid may not be as important as it once was. Carrying a camera around that can print photos on the fly isn’t something that most people do nowadays, they’d rather just take a quick picture with their smartphone and post it online. Nevertheless, a market still exists for those who like nostalgia and Polaroid continues to ride that wave. At CES 2017, it has launched a new camera called Polaroid Pop which mixes nostalgia with the latest technology.

For its 80th anniversary, the company has launched the Polaroid Pop at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas. The new camera’s print format takes inspiration from the iconic photos that are synonymous with the company’s brand.

The Pop touts Zero Ink Printing Technology which enables the camera to print images without using ink. Those who prefer the old Polaroid photographs will like the Pop even more because it also prints out 3.5 by 4.25 inch pictures like Polaroids from back in the day.

Its inkless printing technology is based on using heat to activate the dyes embedded in the printing paper. That’s something it does differently than its predecessors, but then again, technology has come a long way since then.

Polaroid Pop also packs a 3.97 inch touchscreen LCD, a 20 megapixel CMOS sensor that can record full HD video and supports microSD cards of up to 128GB. Polaroid hasn’t confirmed how much the Pop will cost but it did confirm that the camera will be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
