Xbox Live Monthly Active Users Reach 55 Million

xbox-liveTo play online multiplayer games on the Xbox 360/One, you will need to subscribe to an online service called Xbox Live which is priced at $9.99 a month if you were to purchase it on a month-to-month basis (it gets cheaper if you buy in bulk). It also serves as another source of revenue for Microsoft.

That being said, it seems that Xbox Live is raking in the dough for the Redmond company because in the company’s latest quarterly earnings report, they revealed that Xbox Live’s monthly active users is at a record high of 55 million. This means that that in recent times, the number of users logging into the service and subscribing to the service is at 55 million a month.

This also represents a 15% increase from the previous year which would suggest that the number of gamers on the Xbox One and Xbox Live are on the rise. Speaking to GeekWire, Microsoft’s director of investor relations Zack Moxcey says that Microsoft feels “very good” about the numbers as it represents “strong engagement”.

It is possible that this alternate source of revenue could be one of the reasons why for the upcoming Nintendo Switch, Nintendo also has plans for a paid online service, a departure from their previous consoles where online multiplayer services was pretty much free.
