Back when Pokemon GO was first launched and the craze of the game was at its peak, analysts offered up their predictions in which they claimed that Pokemon GO had the potential to make as much as $1 billion in revenue a year. It looks like they could be right because according to a report from Sensor Tower, that’s exactly what happened.

The game was first released back in July of 2016 which means that in a little over half a year, the game managed to beat expectations by earning over $1 billion. Earlier this month it was reported that the game had managed to pull in $950 million, and assuming that both App Annie and Sensor Tower’s data are both similar, that’s a lot of money to make in a relatively short amount of time.

By comparison as you can see in the graph above, other popular games such as Clash Royale still has yet to break the $1 billion mark, and this is despite the fact that it was released several months earlier and is also riding on the success of the Clash of Clans title. That being said while the game might have made its first billion, we have to wonder if they will be able to continue this trend for the second year or the years to come.

Back in September it was reported that the game’s paying customers were on the decline, although to give Niantic credit, they have been trying to keep things as fresh and exciting as possible with constant updates and changes to the game.
