Japanese media and entertainment companies NHK Enterprises and NHK Media Technology are expected to debut a VR motion ride that will let riders experience a VR tour of the city of Tokyo, Japan. The best part is that this ride does not require users to wear any sort of headset, and it will be in 8K resolution, which should make things feel pretty damn realistic.
For those unfamiliar, 8K is basically four times the resolution of that of 4K and has a resolution of 7680 x 4320. This effort by NHK is meant to help boost the tourism industry of Japan (although given Japan’s popularity we reckon it probably doesn’t need that much promotion), as well as show off the 8K technology that they have helped develop.
Apparently 8K will be so sharp that it would make it impossible for the human eye to detect individual pixels, but this is something you’ll probably have to see to believe. SXSW will be taking place in Austin, Texas in the US and will be kicking off this Friday. NHK’s 8K VR motion ride will be available at exhibit hall 3 at the Austin Convention Center between Sunday and Wednesday.
