Galaxy S8 Facial Recognition Feature May Be Used To Verify Payments

We’ve already seen multiple reports which suggest that the Galaxy S8 is going to have a facial recognition feature. Since Samsung already debuted iris scanning with the failed Galaxy Note 7 last year so it’s very likely that the upcoming flagship is going to have it as well. According to a recent report, one of the functions that the facial recognition feature will perform would be to verify mobile payments.

Bloomberg reports that the Galaxy S8 is going to use a blend of fingerprint, iris, and facial detection to verify user identity for a variety of purposes, including but not limiting to verifying payments made using Samsung Pay.

The scribe adds that Samsung is already working with banks in major markets so that they have support for facial recognition technology in the coming months. It cites people who are familiar with the company’s plans as the source of this information. Samsung has declined to comment on the matter.

The iris scanning feature of the Galaxy Note 7 was only limited to controlling access to the device, nevermind the fact that the phone didn’t live long enough for the feature to be used for other things.

The Galaxy S8 is reportedly going to be the first Galaxy smartphone to use facial recognition for the purpose of verifying financial payments. This feature may also work with third-party financial apps and not just Samsung Pay.

None of this has been officially confirmed as yet but we only have to wait until March 29th when Samsung finally unveils the Galaxy S8.
