Nintendo Reassures That Switch Units With Dead Pixels Aren’t Defects

We can only imagine that when buying a new phone, TV, or monitor that upon turning it on, you notice a dead pixel or two. It can be rather annoying to know that it is there, but unfortunately these things happen. However with the Nintendo Switch if you were to notice a dead pixel on your unit, apparently it’s not considered a defect.

In a support page on its website, Nintendo is telling customers that if they notice bright or black dots on their screen, or light or dark patches, that they should not consider their unit to be defective. The support page reads, “Small numbers of stuck or dead pixels are a characteristic of LCD screens. These are normal and should not be considered a defect.”

So what does this mean? This means that because the company does not consider them to be a defect that if you wanted a replacement, you might not be able to get one. However it has been pointed out that Nintendo isn’t alone in this, as other hardware makers have similar policies in place. While Nintendo was not explicit, there’s probably a threshold with regards to the number of dead pixels before it can be considered defective and warrants a replacement.

Hopefully there aren’t too many such units out there, but if you do chance upon a single dead pixel on your Switch, as annoying as it might be, it seems that there’s nothing you can do about it officially.
