Star Wars Battlefront II’s DLC Maps, Modes, And Characters Are Free

Back in the day before DLCs, developers would every now and then update their games with a massive update that will introduce new content, and for the most part this would be free unless it was released as an expansion pack. These days DLCs appear to be the way to go, which makes sense considering that there’s money to be made.

Now if you’re looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront II, you might be pleased to learn that during E3 2017, the game’s developer DICE announced that the game will be adopting a “live service” model, meaning that there will not be a season pass, but instead the developers will be releasing seasons of themed content for free.

According to the game’s executive producer Matt Webster, “But just as important is how we support the game after launch. Our live service is built around the philosophy of keeping our fans playing together with seasons that will add meaningful content and in-game events on a regular basis.”

However there is a slight catch since we’re sure that DICE and EA are still profit-based companies, and that is while DLCs will be free, there will be microtransactions involved. Speaking to GameSpot, the game’s design director Niklas Fegraeus stated that the microtransactions are optional but are there for players who might want to accelerate their progress, but at the end of the day, everything can still be earned through gameplay the good old fashioned way.

“The important thing is everything can be earned [through gameplay]. If you’re someone who spends time on the game, we love you, do your thing, do what you want to do. If you don’t have the time, you can spend money and we love you as well. It’s your choice.”
