All Maserati Cars To Feature Electric Drive From 2019

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the company that owns Maserati, has confirmed that all Maserati cars will feature electric drive from 2019. This doesn’t mean that all Maserati cars are going full electric. It’s going to take a long time before that happen. What this means is that the cars will feature some form of electrified propulsion from 2019.

The confirmation comes from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne who said during a conference call with investors that Maserati is going to lead the FCA group’s wider push to electric propulsion.

More than half of all cars made by brands owned by FCA will use some form of electric power by the year 2022. FCA-owned brands include the likes of Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat, and Dodge.

As far as electrified Maseratis are concerned, the first model is due to arrive in 2020 and will be based on the Alfieri concept which the company revealed at the Geneva motor show back in 2014. Maserati is also going to hybridize some of its existing models like the Levante SUV which is likely to get a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Marchionne has also said that Maserati is going to switch almost all of its investment in power trains to electric after the company is done developing its next two models.
