iPhone 8 Could Silence Notifications By You Looking At It

If the rumors are true, the iPhone 8 is expected to come with a 3D laser scanner which will help facilitate facial recognition, which apparently could be a new form of security for the iPhone 8. Recently thanks to some code discovered by developer Guilherme Rambo (via 9to5Mac), it seems that the 3D laser scanners could be more than just for facial recognition.

Assuming the interpretation of the code is correct, it seems that the upcoming iPhone 8 could come with a nifty feature, which is the ability to silence notification sounds as long as you are looking at it. This means that as long as you’re paying attention to your phone, the feature will make your phone smart enough to know that and thus preventing sounds from playing, which can sometimes be rather annoying especially if you’re getting a ton of notifications.

While we can’t say for sure how the iPhone will be able to achieve this, presumably this could have something to do with the same system that can recognize your face. In fact recently it has been suggested that the iPhone 8’s facial recognition system can actually work even when the phone is lying flat on the table.

In any case this is something we’ll just have to wait and see, so hopefully Apple won’t take their own sweet time and make the official announcement soon.
