LG V30’s Camera Confirmed To Feature F/1.6 Lens

The LG V30 is expected to be announced towards the end of the month, but it seems that for some reason LG has been steadily revealing details about the upcoming phone, which means that by the time the phone is announced, there will be pretty much no surprises left. LG’s latest reveal is about the phone’s camera, and how it will sport a f/1.6 lens.

If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because a report from not too long ago suggested that the LG V30 will be great at low-light photography, and that it will come with a lens with an aperture of f/1.6. For those unfamiliar with cameras and lens aperture, the aperture is basically how wide the lens will “open” to allow light to come in.

The lower the f-stop, the wider it is, so an f-stop of f/1.6 means that the lens is pretty wide open, meaning more light can come in. This means that in low-light situations, more light can be let into the camera which reduces the blur/shake that comes with longer exposures. An aperture of f/1.6 also marks the first time we’re seeing such a wide aperture on a smartphone camera.

Exactly how well it will perform remains to be seen, but we should be able to find that out for ourselves come end of the month where the LG V30 will be officially unveiled.
