Samsung Connect Tag Is A New Multi-Purpose Tracking Device

Samsung today announced the launch of a new multi-purpose cellular IoT tracking device called Samsung Connect. It’s similar in function to a lot of trackers out there that you can use to keep an eye on things like handbags, wallets, and even on your pets. The company calls its Connect Tag a new way to keep track of loved ones, valuables, and more.

Samsung says that the Connect Tag is the world’s first consumer device to use narrowband network technology, that’s a specially designed cellular communication standard for small data utilization with less power usage and the ability to connect to the internet for improved location services.

The Samsung Connect Tag provides smart location notifications based on a NB-IoT or Cat.M1 network, relying on internet services to provide accurate location information for the safety and security of loved ones.

It’s going to work with GPS, Wi-Fi and Cell ID so that users can receive accurate location information both indoors and outdoors. The Connect Tag can be attached to a young kid’s backpack or clipped to a dog’s collar. It can be secured in the key ring to ensure you never lose track of them again.

The device is tied to Samsung’s SmartThings IoT ecosystem. It can work in conjunction with other smart devices. For example, the geo-fence feature will notify the chosen smart devices when the lights and TV have to be turned on as the owner comes back home after a run.

The device itself has a very compact size and has IP68 water and dustproof rating. The battery lasts for up to seven days on a single charge. Samsung is going to showcase this product at its developer conference on October 18th-19th in San Francisco, California.
