WhatsApp For Web Could Get Picture-In-Picture Mode

If you wanted to see some of WhatsApp’s smartphone app feature make their way onto the web version of the messenger client, you might be pleased to learn that the latest beta discovered by WABetaInfo (via NDTV) has revealed some upcoming features that users might find handy.

For starters one of the features that is being brought over from mobile is support for picture-in-picture mode. What this means is that for certain links, like videos, will no longer open a new tab or window in your browser. Instead users can rely on an inline video player so that their conversation can continue uninterrupted.

Another feature in the beta that was discovered is the ability for WhatsApp users to reply group messages privately. This means that you can choose to reply a particular message privately to the person who sent it, while quoting it so that there will be context to your message. It also includes a feature in which group admins can set restrictions in group chats to prevent members from sending messages or media files.

This might come in handy for announcements that you don’t want to get lost or distracted by other group members chatting. No word on when the changes are expected to be rolled out, but if you do use WhatsApp for web at school or work, they could be worth keeping an eye out for.
