Hearthstone Will Finally Be Getting A Tournament Mode

Despite the fact that Hearthstone is one of the more popular competitive video games out there right now, for some reason Blizzard has never really bothered to create a proper tournament mode. Instead players have had to resort to using the in-game player challenge system, which as Kotaku points out has resulted in more than one technical flub.

However the good news is that Blizzard has since announced that Hearthstone will be getting an in-game tournament mode. According to Blizzard, “You’ll be able to create a custom tournament and invite your friends–all from within the Hearthstone game client. To start, the feature will include matchmaking and checking decks, but we’ll continue to add new features and functionality over time.”

However this feature isn’t expected to arrive for a while as a beta of the feature is only expected to arrive mid-year. This means that there will be a period of beta testing, which also means that when the feature is eventually rolled out, it might be much later in the year. Blizzard notes that they will be exploring this feature through the release and feedback, so what you see might not necessarily be in the final release.

In addition to a new tournament mode, Blizzard had also previously announced that Hearthstone will be phasing out certain card sets from Standard play. It was also suggested that a new expansion will be arriving in the next couple of months.
