You Can Now Make Alexa Calls From Tablets

Amazon enabled Alexa to make calls and send messages last year. The feature was initially available on the company’s own Echo-branded devices but not anymore. Amazon has also revealed that users will now be able to use Alexa to make video/voice calls and send messages from tablets. Not just Amazon’s Fire-branded tablets, but any and all compatible Android tablets and iPads.

This means that users no longer require an Echo speaker to take advantage of this feature. They can simply download the Alexa app on their tablet and get in touch with fellow Alexa users regardless of the device they own.

Users will find it very easy to access this feature on Amazon’s own tablets like the Fire HD 10 where it’s as easy as commanding Alexa to contact someone. On other Amazon tablets it involves tapping on the home button first. For all non-Amazon tablets, users will first have to launch the Alexa app before they can make calls and send messages.

The app eliminates the need to own an Echo device if the only reason you’re using Alexa is to stay in touch with someone who does own one. Simply download and install the Alexa app on a compatible tablet and get connected. It’s that simple.
