Bethesda Uncertain If Rage 2 Could Work On The Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s consoles have admittedly never really been much about power. Instead the company tends to choose to focus its efforts on fun and interesting gameplay, which is why it didn’t really come as a surprise to learn that the Nintendo Switch wasn’t exactly packing the latest or greatest hardware.

However this in turn has caused some problems, namely how there are some games that can’t run on it, such as Bethesda’s Rage 2 which was announced a few months ago. Speaking to DualShockers, Bethesda’s Pete Hines said, “We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech. The nice thing about Doom, Wolf, and Doom Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche‘s engine, so it’s a different beast in terms of a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.”

That being said, to Bethesda’s credit the company has been a huge supporter of the Switch. Skyrim for the Switch was one of the games that was showed off when the console was first unveiled. The company has since brought a bunch of games onto the console, such as DOOM and Wolfenstein, so it stands to believe if the company could bring Rage 2 to the Switch, they would.

Hines adds, “We want as many people to be able to play our games as possible. A lot of time and a lot of effort go into making these games. So if bringing it to another platform allows more people to play it, great. So far the reception has been good, people really like the games, so we’re gonna keep doing it.”
