Netflix Testing Video Promos In Between Episodes

Don’t want to pay for YouTube Red? Using the free version of Spotify? If you are, chances are you are familiar with ads because since you’re not paying for those services, ads are a way for companies to make money. However with Netflix, since there is no free tier, would seeing an ad incense you?

If it will, then you’re not alone because it seems that one of Netflix’s latest test is angering a lot of its users. In a report from Cord Cutter News, it appears that Netflix is testing out inserting video promos in between your shows. The company has since confirmed to TechCrunch that this indeed a test and is only live for a small percentage of its users.

These videos, at least for now, are for promoting Netflix’s catalogue so they’re not full-blown ads that you might expect from YouTube. However it is worrying because it could be easily replaced with actual ads, and given that Netflix’s appeal is the fact that it is ad-free and on-demand, many users appear to be annoyed that they might have to put up with such ads even when they’re paying for the service.

Netflix reassures users that they conduct many tests throughout the year, which means that there is a chance that this feature might not even make the final cut. Plus given the backlash that they’re facing, it’s probably not the best idea right now.
