Original Mario Bros. Gains Online Co-Op With Nintendo Switch Online

One of the perks of signing up for Nintendo’s Switch Online subscription service is obviously the ability to play games with other Switch owners online. There are also additional perks where players will gain access to a bunch of classic games, and now it looks like Nintendo is touting those two perks as a way to get users to sign up.

In a post on Twitter, Nintendo has revealed that not only do gamers gain access to a library of classic NES games like the original Mario Bros., but these games will also be gaining online functionality. This means that instead of playing these games via local co-op, players will also be able to play online with other players.

This means that if you’ve ever wanted to play a game of Mario Bros. with another player online, subscribing to the Switch Online service will let you do just that. Nintendo’s Switch Online service is expected to launch this month. No word on when exactly that will happen, but Nintendo has recently scheduled a Nintendo Direct conference for the 6th of September, and presumably more details will be revealed then.

While online subscription services are a new strategy Nintendo has employed, it is considerably cheaper than the competition. A 12-month subscription will only cost gamers $20, or alternatively gamers could choose to subscribe on a month-to-month basis at $4, or $8 for a 3-month subscription.
